Yep it's that time of year again, ring days?? this is my 2nd week without one, but the 1's who get 7 days nearly every 2 weeks, they change there shifts to get the seven days and that,s a fact, up in Longstone we got guys who are never away from the garage, so guys its happening all over the place, it's something that will never get stopped, wait till summertime starts again, then they will be screaming out for us to do the overtime. Have read the comments on OC, yes ur right Marine, you will def miss him, i knew him @ Central when he was behind the desk and when he came to Longstone, you couldn't have asked for a better boss, sad to say people like OC & AF will never be forgotten as they were good at there job and knew how to speak to drivers and get the work out of them, THEY WILL BE MISSED. 37 what strike? The pay strike was Grotbags at Longstone she was the only scab!!The unofficial strike a number of drivers at all garages didn't walk while others stayed out driving!! 2 stops. I forgot all about the 8 right enough. Haven't been on it for a while thank god. The worst bus in central garage by far. I think the schedulers done the timings for it in a de'lorean, the arseholes that they are. And who the fuck thought that stopping at Waverley and H&M would be a good idea. As if the travelling public are not getting confused enough by their bus stops being changed every 2nd week or so, along come Lothians finest and decide that the 8 will no longer stop at the Disney store but outside H&M. Calling them idiots is doing a dis-service to real idiots. You can't get round the corner from South St David street half the time coz there is usually a 37, 31 and 29 waiting to use that stop, so you just have to sit there at a green light in South St David street going nowhere with all the cars behind you blasting the horn like fuck coz they think you haven't seen the green light. Whats the old saying about if it aint broke don't fix it. About time ! our employers started to apply this to their thinking don't you think. sent an e-mail to TIE to ask if lothian buses were to be sold or transferred to transdev, if or when the trams are up and running. Here is their reply..... Tie has asked me to respond to you directly on your enquiry. Transdev, as you point out, also operates buses in the UK and abroad. It is one of the largest tram operators in the world with about 1000 trams under its operation in France, Australia, Portugal, Netherlands and the UK in Nottingham. Transdev was brought into the tram project as part of Early Operator involvement and we have been helping with the design of the tramway and preparing for operation. Transdev has a contract to operate the trams only (provide drivers, inspectors and controllers) with Transport Edinburgh Ltd (TEL) which is wholly owned by the City Council. The tram services will be integrated with the Lothian Bus services with the ticketing also integrated. Lothian Buses is a separate entity from Transdev and will remain so. It has its own management structure who determine the bus services, how they operate and the fares which are charged. Lothian Buses is owned by the City Council (along in small part with East and Midlothian Councils) and I am not aware of any plans to change that. Indeed the council has publicly stated that they will not sell the bus company. Just so that you are aware, Transdev also operates excellent bus services. Our subsidiary Transdev Keighley and District and won City operator of the year and was runner up in the Operator of the year category at the recent UK Bus Awards. chatting to a colleague in the canteen last night about the service cutbacks, he was surprised them upstairs used wayfarer data to make such decisions. How else are they going to know which routes are busy? The conversation then progressed to him saying that he never pressed the SWFB button for the oldies or the daysaver count button. This is important guys, the SWFB, the one ticket and the plus bus all get money for the company...and money for our wages - please use them! The daysaver count maybe isn't so important but mind use it on your favourite services, make them look busy!! [NOVEMBER_21_2008]

Look on the VOSA website and go to service registrations. There you will find all the service alterations etc. The company have just registered the xmas services on there. Go to online services then just type Lothian Buses in the search window, then click search by date. [NOVEMBER_21_2008]

Yfrom the evening news - Yep that bit states the X48 to operate Peak Times only, but the bit that was in the box, lists that it will serve "All Stops" and Be limited stop at peak Times Only. So is the X48 being reduced to Peak Only like the 32 or becoming an all stopper all Day except during Peak Hours?????? Also the 1 is going Clermiston-Easter Road on a Sunday. The 17 & X12 is withdrawn, 22 to go Double Deck at a 6 minute frequency, the 15 as said before Penicuik-Eastfield, The 42 to omit WGH, and to serve Scottish Gas HQ!!! (No more Silverknowes??)and to drop to a 30 min frequency, the 45 to operate Lothian Road/West End in place of the 17. Yes the 17 already sits perfectly between or behind 11's nad 16's! So why change the 45? 10,23 & 27 to drop from every 10 to 12 mins, the 7/33's to drop to every 15 mins, the 26 to go every 7/8 mins Clerwood-Eastfield. Think that covers it [november_20_2008]

FULL details of fresh cuts to Lothian Buses services have been revealed, with bus bosses blaming "city-wide roadworks" and the economic downturn for the move. Five more routes are set to be withdrawn or cut back, with frequency reduced on nine more services. The plans will be submitted to the Traffic Commissioner tomorrow and will be discussed with the city council next week. The council is proposing to spend £26,400 to save one of the under-threat routes, the X48 to Ratho, for the next few months. It says withdrawing it could "isolate" the community. The news follows Lothian Buses' decision to cut 11 routes last month. Passenger numbers have been badly hit by tram works and other roadworks, and are down seven per cent on last year. Ian Craig, the company's managing director said: "We are disappointed to be proposing these changes, but it is a necessary response to falling passenger numbers caused by a combination of tough economic conditions and city-wide roadworks – the end result of which is a pressing need to further reduce loss-making operations." He said the firm would try to minimise the effect on customers, and the vast majority would be able to access alternative services. Among the buses to be cut are the X48, which will only operate during peak periods. The Ratho to Ingliston part is being completely withdrawn. The council says this will have a "major impact" on users, as there are no other buses connecting Ratho with the city centre. Dave Henderson, the director of city development, said: "The most severe impact is undoubtedly the loss of the X48 service to Ratho. "This community is isolated from the main road network and the X48 provides the only bus link to the city centre." He said the complete withdrawal of the 17, which serves the Waterfront, would also have an impact on customers. The X12, which serves Gogarburn and Leith Links, is also due to be withdrawn. Nine bus routes will now run less frequently, including the 22, which covers part of the planned tram route. In reply to ring days ive got mine. Dont know if youv'e noticed most of the training school staff have already been back driving this year and they had to do normal duties on the pool. The only diffirence this time when they go back to there respective garages is they are going back onto the main line ASAP. That would indicate that yes they are going to be back driving for some time. As for the overtime there permanent contracts are as drivers and they are entitled to overtime and its not there fault that when working in the training school they work mon / fri and the only days they can work overtime is Sat/Sun and they have to take wots going just like everybody else. I hope this clears up some misconceptions some people have about the training school staff. [NOVEMBER_12_2008]

I agree with the overtime comments. we don't get nightshift overtime at all now, it's given away as regular shifts to spare drivers thus saving the company a fortune. Most of the current nightbuses were only kept because they are funded by bus development grants K-Kate. When this runs out, IF there is to be a night service at all, it may well change dramatically. I actually like the system as it is though, far easier for passengers to know which bus they should get. There is defo a fare rise on the cards, as the Ridacard adverts are vanishing fast from the Engine Covers of the buses. As for Single Fares etc, they cant blame diesel costs as they are 10-20p a litre cheaper, than about 2 months ago!. 106.9, from the 126.9 I was paying! So I cant imagine them raising it by 20p, maybe another 5 or 10p. But who knows. As for the Ratho Buses coming off, ouch, they can be busy during the Peak Time, it was a couple of years ago now since I was out to Ratho on an X48, but it had a full load when I drove it.
